Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says two oil tankers explode after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, as the United States and Iran continue exchanging drone and missile strikes. Iran’s Guards state the explosions occur in a minefield south of the strait while vessels attempt to transit, and they also describe actions taken against other shipping. Al-Monitor reports the Guards say the two tankers explode and catch fire after attempting to pass the minefield, citing what they call deceptive intelligence by the United States, though they do not identify the tankers. Mint likewise reports the IRGC claim that two tankers explode following mine impacts. The Hindu adds that, in separate statements, the Guards say they “stopped” four ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. None of the sources attribute responsibility for the explosions to parties other than the IRGC’s account, and the reports do not provide independent verification or the names of the affected vessels.
