Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition, is set to be released on station bail after police questioning in connection with an FIR over alleged remarks about actress Trisha. Multiple reports say the Madras High Court directs police to release him once questioning is completed, reflecting the Tamil Nadu government’s position that it does not seek to keep him in judicial custody.
During a hearing, the Tamil Nadu Advocate General told the court that the police want to question him as part of the investigation and will release him on station bail later in the day. The government clarified it has no intention of requesting his remand to judicial custody. The court also instructed Udhayanidhi to cooperate with the investigation whenever required.
Udhayanidhi was arrested earlier and taken from his Chennai residence for questioning by police, with reports indicating he was being moved for inquiry linked to the case. One report states he denies making any derogatory remarks and characterizes the allegations as false. The case follows remarks attributed to him during a protest-related speech that resulted in the FIR registration.
