A 14-year-old boy dies after entering the River Thames at Millwall Outer Dock in east London during a period of very warm weather. Multiple reports say he went into the water despite signs indicating the area was not for swimming, with some accounts describing it as a “no swimming zone.” Emergency services are called to the scene shortly before 7pm on Monday, and police, firefighters, and ambulance crews search for the boy and respond to reports of him getting into difficulty in the water.
The Independent and others report he is pronounced dead at the scene on London’s Isle of Dogs after a search. The Evening Standard adds that despite best efforts from emergency services, the boy is pronounced dead following a multi-hour search. Reports also note that temperatures were around 30C at the time and that police issue or reference warm weather warnings.
