Reported stop locations in Uruguay include Montevideo, Paysandu and Florida; in Argentina, Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Lujan; and in Peru, Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa, along with Chiclayo being highlighted by multiple outlets.
Several sources note the significance of Peru for Leo XIV, citing his long-standing ties to the country. They report that he spent decades there as a missionary and church leader, held Peruvian citizenship, and previously served as bishop of Chiclayo until his election as pope. His return to Chiclayo is expected to be a key moment of the visit. Sources also describe the trip’s relevance for Argentina, including that Leo XIV will visit the pope’s predecessor’s homeland, Pope Francis, who did not return to Argentina during his pontificate.
