Thailand school shooting: 14-year-old kills grandparents, then shoots teachers and students

Thailand: A 14-year-old student opened fire at a high school outside Bangkok on Friday morning, killing five school staff members and injuring 23 people before taking his own life, authorities said. Officials said the teenager had apparently killed his two grandparents at their home before the school shooting.The shooting took place around 10 am at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, northwest of Bangkok. Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee said five staff members, including teachers and administrators, were killed.Suwunchwee said the student had also killed his grandparents at their home before heading to the school.Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the school after the attack, confirmed that the shooter was 14 and had killed himself. He said the teenager, who lived with his grandparents, had shown signs of stress linked to school.Police described the weapon as a small, compact gun. Charnvirakul said it was legally registered to the boy's grandfather.About an hour after the shooting, people gathered outside the co-educational state school and comforted one another as police and first responders moved around the campus. The school has an enrolment of about 3,000 students aged 12 to 18.A witness told reporters that students sheltered inside a classroom after hearing gunshots from another building. Police officers later knocked on the classroom door and cleared a path for them to leave.Bangyai Hospital, around 5 km from the school, said 23 people were injured, 10 of them critically. Most had suffered gunshot wounds. Earlier reports had given conflicting casualty figures.Police Find Grandparents Dead At HomeFollowing the school shooting, police went to the home of the student's grandparents.
