Mumbai Metro One launches a WhatsApp-based “digital pass” system that lets commuters buy and carry metro passes for travel on its Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar corridor. The service issues pass-based tickets electronically and is designed to reduce reliance on physical cards and queues at ticket counters.
The operator says the new DG-Pass facility expands on its existing WhatsApp ticketing platform, which previously supported single-journey QR tickets. Under the update, users can purchase two types of passes: a Trip Pass with a fixed number of journeys available until used, and a Store Value Pass where a loaded balance is deducted for each trip and can later be recharged digitally. Free Press Journal also describes a step-by-step WhatsApp flow for purchasing.
Across outlets, the main emphasis is on convenience and integration. Times of India highlights that the digital passes integrate with both Google Wallet and Apple Wallet, enabling commuters to access passes from smartphones. Free Press Journal adds details such as payment options (UPI, debit, and credit cards) and the use of the existing WhatsApp channel without requiring a separate app, new account, or in-person ticket purchase.
