Reddit is testing AI-generated media that turns certain text posts into audio and short videos. In the trial, eligible posts display a Read/Play option, which produces a synthetic-voice narration of the main post and selected comments. The videos also highlight the text as it is read, using karaoke-style on-screen timing.
The feature is described by outlets as a live web experiment with rollouts to iOS and Android. The tests appear limited for now to a small set of English-language threads. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman ties the effort to the popularity of third-party “Reddit reading” audio channels already online, according to one report.
While coverage differs in emphasis—some focus more on the audio “podcast” aspect and others on the video presentation—sources broadly agree this is an opt-in experiment that repackages existing Reddit text content into listenable and viewable formats using AI voices.
