Venice Film Festival adds the Gaza documentary “NAZA” to its Competition lineup, after organisers publish a last-minute slate update. Multiple outlets report the film will screen as part of the festival’s contest for the Golden Lion.
The documentary is directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, who are also credited for the Israel-Palestine film “No Other Land.” According to the published synopsis used by several publications, “NAZA” is shot at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv and examines “the systems behind” what it describes as Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza during the war.
Outlets also differ slightly in how they describe production and positioning. Deadline and The Guardian credit Jim Wilson as involved in production and Jonathan Glazer as executive producer, noting his team behind “The Zone of Interest.” Other sources emphasize the film’s focus on Israeli military killings of Palestinian civilians and, in some cases, its role as a notable documentary competing in Venice’s top prize category.
