US officials say they observe Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) preparing to launch rockets intended to deploy sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. The Guardian and other reports frame the action as connected to rising shipping and maritime-security concerns around the strait.
Iran’s state media and the IRGC say the attack kills and wounds several soldiers and civilians, and that Tehran will respond. Separately, Reuters-linked reporting notes US President Donald Trump has previously said that all mines have been detonated or removed from international waters of Hormuz and that Iran will destroy any new mine-laying attempts.
