The European Commission designates ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as “very large online platforms” under the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA). The move subjects the services to additional obligations aimed at reducing risks to users and society.
The designation requires the platforms and certain search services to take steps to limit risks related to fundamental rights, electoral processes and public security. The obligations include enhanced compliance measures and increased oversight compared with standard platforms.
Outlets also report that the Commission gives these companies a set timeline to meet the new requirements. Financial Times and other coverage state that the companies have four months to comply with the additional DSA duties. Across reports, the common focus is on the expanded EU scrutiny under the DSA’s framework for large platforms, rather than any single platform-specific issue.
