Security forces rescue NYSC members abducted by suspected kidnappers in Egume Forest, Egume, in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Multiple outlets report that 10 corps members are freed in the forest, with other reports placing the total rescued victims higher, including additional abductees alongside the NYSC group.
Several outlets cite joint operations involving the police, military, and the Department of State Services (DSS), describing the effort as coordinated and intelligence-driven. The reports say the abducted NYSC members were travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State and were taken by kidnappers. Nigerian Eye and others add that some abductors contact victims’ families to demand ransom, reported as ₦20 million per corps member, though police do not confirm whether any ransom is paid.
While all sources agree on the Egume Forest/Ofu LGA location and a joint security operation, they differ on the number of NYSC members rescued and how many total victims were recovered. Some accounts also say efforts continue to locate the remaining abducted victims and apprehend those responsible.
