The United States sanctions 10 individuals and entities it says helped Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics procure weapons and weapons components. The US Treasury Department announces the designations, citing alleged procurement of parts used for Iranian weapons development.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the US will continue targeting those that provide material, technological, or financial support that enables Iran to sustain its activities. The sanctioned parties include a China-based representative of Iran’s defence ministry and representatives of firms located in Iran, Hong Kong, and Pakistan, according to the Treasury Department.
Several outlets describe the move as part of the Trump administration’s broader approach to pressure Iran economically. Al-Monitor says the sanctions are tied to efforts to isolate Iran and encourage negotiations, framed in the context of a renewed US-Iran conflict that began in February.
