Washington’s quarterback Marcus Mariota is injured during the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts and is replaced by rookie Athan Kaliakmanis. Multiple outlets report Mariota goes to the locker room and that his right knee is affected after he is hurt while playing.
CBS Sports and Yahoo Sports describe the injury as serious enough that Mariota is questioned to return, with one report specifying an MCL injury. The Commanders are also already missing Jayden Daniels, leaving them with a third-string quarterback setup. As a result, Kaliakmanis—described as a seventh-round pick from Rutgers—enters the game and leads Washington’s offense while the Colts take control in the matchup.
