Microsoft’s Xbox unit is creating a new centralized division, called “XP,” to expand major video-game franchises beyond games. Multiple outlets report that XP brings together existing efforts across film and television adaptations, consumer products, live and immersive events, and partnerships with creators, brands and communities.
XP is led by Kayleen Walters, described across coverage as a veteran executive who previously ran Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, and is associated with the production of A Minecraft Movie. Xbox’s strategy is to use its IP—particularly properties such as Minecraft and Fallout—as the foundation for transmedia projects, including additional film/TV development and merchandising-linked initiatives. The outlets also describe a role for “XP” in organizing fan-facing events and attractions, rather than limiting activity to traditional media.
Reporting notes that the division formalizes work that was previously distributed across different teams within Xbox. Coverage also points to the company’s broader shift toward entertainment, while acknowledging that industry restructuring and studio changes have accompanied Xbox’s push into multimedia.
