Apple is changing how software updates appear in the Settings app for iPhone users who are still running iOS 26. After the release of iOS 27 on September 14, the iOS 27 line was initially minimized in Settings while iOS 26.7 (and later 26.7.1) was more prominently shown as the recommended update.
With the release of iOS 27.0.1, Apple now places iOS 27.0.1 in the main Software Update position under General, while iOS 26.7.1 is moved to a smaller “Also Available” section. Multiple outlets report that this reverses the earlier ordering in Settings and more clearly encourages users to upgrade.
Apple does not present the update as mandatory. Instead, it continues to recommend installing the latest available security fixes, noting that iOS 26.7.1 is still available for users who choose not to move to iOS 27.
