YouTuber Dhruv Rathee is detained by police ahead of a planned Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Multiple outlets report he is detained from his home in Gurugram before the demonstration. Police detentions also extend to other protesters, with one report citing around 150 people detained across the New Delhi area.

Rathee, who reportedly arrived in India from Germany earlier in the week, joins the protest after taking part in CJP activities in Bengaluru on October 8. The protest is described as opposing alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Outlets also note heightened security measures in the run-up to October 10.

One outlet adds that Ratna Singh, associated with CJP’s legal team, claims she is being detained without proper official notice and reports a large police presence around her. Sources differ on whether Rathee’s detention is attributed to Delhi Police after he travels, or to Gurgaon Police as he arrives in Delhi, but they broadly agree the detentions occur shortly before the protest.
