The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released final lists of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in several states, excluding some candidates after their party primaries and court-related developments. In Kano State, INEC drops NDC governorship candidate Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo from the final list, leaving 17 candidates from different parties.
In Ogun State, INEC omits PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and his running mate from the final list. In Gombe State, INEC also excludes former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, after he won a fresh PDP governorship primary in September following earlier legal issues. Multiple outlets report that INEC’s published documents list cleared candidates with details such as names, party, running mates, ages, genders, qualifications and remarks, but do not provide an explanation for the omissions in these cases. Pantami publicly reacts through a statement issued on his behalf.
Some reports frame the omissions as a setback for the affected parties, while others note that INEC’s website upload confirms the final lists for the states covered, including candidate counts for Ogun and Gombe.
