Epic Games is reportedly delaying an unannounced Disney video-game collaboration featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters while shifting its production approach toward “AI-first” development. Multiple outlets citing anonymous sources and a Bloomberg report say the project was previously aimed for a March release, but has been postponed without a new launch date.
According to the reports, Epic has told the game’s developers to rely more heavily on generative AI for both code and assets, described as moving away from hand-written code and toward “full AI workflows” for art. The internal guidance also reportedly includes using tools associated with Anthropic’s Claude, with humans remaining responsible for reviewing and directing outcomes.
Epic, through a communications spokesperson, frames the move as AI-accelerated development led by Epic developers. Outlets differ mainly in how they describe the project’s status and scope, but agree on the key elements: the delay, the AI-first production directive, and heavier use of AI tooling for asset creation and programming as part of Epic’s broader generative AI push.
