President Bola Tinubu flags off a $100 million gas distribution pipeline project for Nigeria’s Southeast, aimed at accelerating industrialisation, attracting investment and creating jobs. The initiative is being implemented through the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) and involves building a 400-kilometre network linking gas resources to industrial and commercial hubs across Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi.
Project promoters say the pipeline has an estimated demand of 254 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and that about 150 potential customers have been identified. Tinubu frames the project as part of a broader effort to build an integrated regional economy, stressing that infrastructure should connect industries and markets across state boundaries rather than within them.
Several outlets also highlight Tinubu’s references to benefits for specific industrial areas and sectors, including manufacturing activity in Aba and industrial clusters in Nnewi and Onitsha, as well as agro-processing in Ebonyi. Outlets further report that Tinubu urges SEDC and partners to prioritise transparency, environmental responsibility, community engagement and safety compliance during implementation.
