Union education minister Pralhad Joshi says India’s schooling has become “marks-wadi,” with students, parents and the education system overly focused on exam scores. He calls for replacing rote learning with experiential learning and says parental pressure to secure marks limits students’ confidence and practical understanding.

Joshi makes the remarks while inaugurating a CBSE “Experience Centre” at the board’s integrated office complex in Dwarka. He links the need for change to the approach of NEP 2020, arguing that time spent memorising and strategising to score leaves learning capacity and interests “unexamined.”

Across the outlets, the core message is consistent: rote learning should be reduced, experiential learning promoted, and parents encouraged to move away from score-first attitudes. Coverage differences mainly come from how much context each outlet includes about the event location and the NEP 2020 reference.
