Sony has announced the LYTIA 720, a new stacked CMOS image sensor for mobile devices, featuring about 50 effective megapixels and a 1.0-micrometre pixel size. Multiple outlets describe it as aimed at improving low-light photography, alongside support for 4K video recording with HDR at 60 frames per second.

The sensor is reported to use an image-quality approach based on Sony’s Ultra High Conversion Gain (UHCG) and Hybrid Frame-HDR (HF-HDR), which the company says can raise dynamic range via HDR compositing. Sony Semiconductor Solutions also links the announcement to its LYTIA high-end series and states the sensor is scheduled to begin shipping in early November 2026. Coverage largely repeats Sony’s performance claims rather than providing independent tests.

While most outlets emphasize low-light improvements and 4K 60fps HDR, the specific promised metrics and technical framing vary by source, including how dynamic range is described.
