OpenAI is expanding how people interact with its ChatGPT Dots AI agents by letting users message them directly through phone messaging apps. The new support enables users to send text instructions, photos, and voice messages, and to assign tasks that their Dot agent can help manage.

Across outlets, the feature is described as working on both iPhone and Android through Apple’s iMessage and Android’s Rich Communication Services (RCS). Digital Trends and NDTV add that users can also receive proactive updates from the agent, while framing it as an easier, more integrated way to “get things done” using the messaging interface rather than a separate chat experience. Engadget and other reports summarize the same core capability: texting the Dot via iMessage and RCS.

The remaining differences are mostly in emphasis—some outlets highlight tasking and updates, while others focus on the platform compatibility and the basics of what messages the Dot can receive.
