Archaeologists report the discovery of a roughly 3,300-year-old Bronze Age sword in Italy’s volcanic crater lake. Authorities say the weapon remains exceptionally sharp despite spending thousands of years underwater.
In addition to the sword, the excavation yields other well-preserved items from the same underwater context, including ancient weapons and objects such as intact vases and a bronze razor. The outlets largely focus on the unusual preservation of the metal and the sword’s condition, with both describing the setting as a volcanic crater lake and emphasizing how intact the finds appear after millennia.
