Blue Origin says an unmanned rocket explodes on a Cape Canaveral launchpad during an engine-firing test. Multiple outlets report the blast occurred Thursday night, producing a large fireball and lighting up the surrounding area and sky in Central Florida. Video described by several sources shows flames spreading across the launchpad and nearby areas. Some reports add that the explosion shakes nearby homes, with residents briefly seeing an orange glow. The incident happens as the company continues pre-launch testing tied to upcoming missions, with CBS News and NPR noting testing ahead of a planned June launch and another satellite launch scheduled for next week. Blue Origin and outlets quoting officials describe the situation as not posing a threat from fumes or other hazards, according to The Hindu’s report of emergency officials. Global News includes Jeff Bezos’ response after the explosion, saying the company will rebuild and return to flying. Blue Origin also states that all personnel are accounted for following the incident.
