Jason Momoa has left the PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures film adaptation of Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers franchise, according to multiple reports. The movie is directed by Justin Lin, who was attached earlier, and Sony had previously announced Momoa as the lead star earlier this year, shortly after the project’s initial announcement in January 2025. Deadline and Variety report that no reason for Momoa’s departure has been provided by Sony or the production team. The Hollywood Reporter also states that Momoa exits the Justin Lin-directed feature and notes that the screenplay is written by Gary Dauberman. With Momoa no longer attached, Sony and PlayStation Productions are now looking for a replacement lead and are also assessing other casting. Several outlets describe the project as continuing to move forward despite the casting change. At this stage, specific timing and a new casting timeline have not been publicly detailed, and the lead role remains to be filled.
