South Korean President Lee Jae Myung arrives in Brussels for the first stage of a 10-day European trip that includes meetings with Belgian leaders, European Union officials, and later participation in the G7 summit in France. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to meet members of the South Korean community in Brussels, followed by bilateral talks with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. A courtesy call on King Philippe is planned for Wednesday. The presidential office says Lee will use the meetings to explore ways to expand cooperation with Belgium, including efforts to help South Korean companies secure a stable position in the European market. The visit also takes place during celebrations of the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Belgium. In addition, Lee is expected to hold summit talks in Brussels with Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and related EU discussions. After the Brussels portion, the trip continues to Italy and the Vatican, before Lee attends the G7 summit in France later in the schedule. The G7 meeting is described as part of Lee’s continuing role as Korea’s invited participant.
