The Korea Times Forum on Tuesday brings together policymakers, business executives, diplomats and industry experts to discuss how Korea can use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve competitiveness in a fractured global economy. Held in central Seoul under the theme “Made in Korea: Global and AI enablement,” the forum focuses on how companies can move beyond export-led growth models and pursue AI-driven transformation to respond to geopolitical uncertainty, rapid technological change and intensifying international competition. In written remarks, President Lee Jae Myung pledges increased investment in cutting-edge industries, including AI, and says the government will support businesses to innovate freely and achieve sustainable growth. The government message frames AI transformation as both an opportunity for growth and an avenue for broader advancement.
Participants also emphasize international cooperation as Korea seeks a stronger role in shaping innovation in the emerging AI era. Singapore’s ambassador to Korea, Wong Kai Jiun, describes the timing of the forum as timely given AI’s rising importance in the economy and society, while Ireland’s ambassador to Korea, Michelle Winthrop, highlights that AI adoption is likely to be critical for future economic success. The discussions collectively link AI development with policy support and global partnership.
