The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces recipients for its 2026 Governors Awards. Actress Glenn Close and director Ridley Scott will receive honorary Oscars, joining animator Floyd Norman, who will also be honored at the ceremony. Producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler are selected to receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. Several outlets note that none of this year’s five honorees have previously been recognized with a competitive Oscar. Close has been nominated eight times over multiple decades, while Scott has received four Oscar nominations, according to the reporting. Floyd Norman’s selection is described as an honor for his animation work. The Governors Awards are scheduled to take place in November, at the 17th edition of the event. Multiple outlets frame the awards as a recognition of the honorees’ influence on modern cinema, while the Academy’s announcements emphasize the specific categories: honorary Oscars for Close, Scott, and Norman, and the Thalberg Memorial Award for Vachon and Koffler.
