Chicago’s Bulls are reportedly finalizing the hiring of Tiago Splitter as their next head coach, with multiple outlets citing AP and other sources. Splitter, 41, is expected to leave the Portland Trail Blazers, where he most recently served as interim head coach. After Chauncey Billups was suspended earlier in the season, Splitter took over Portland and guided the team through the interim period. The Athletic and Yahoo Sports report that Splitter led the Trail Blazers to a 42–39 record as interim head coach, and Yahoo reports he also helped Portland reach the NBA playoffs. Several reports also describe Splitter’s reputation for player development. In Chicago, the hire is framed as a reset following a recent playoff-related struggle for the franchise, and at least one outlet notes he is formally introduced as the team’s 25th head coach. CBS Sports and The Oregonian report that Portland’s coaching position remains open while Splitter moves to Chicago.
