The FBI says it disrupted an alleged attack planned for the UFC “Freedom 250” event at the White House in Washington, D.C., over the weekend. According to federal officials, investigators allege the suspects planned to use explosive-laden small drones to strike an area near the White House north side (some reports describe the plot as targeting the South Lawn). The alleged plan also included snipers positioned to shoot people who tried to flee during the attack. Authorities say five people are charged and/or in custody, with reporting across outlets indicating arrests occurred across multiple states. Several reports say authorities identified a wider network of participants, with one outlet reporting 23 people were identified as part of the alleged conspirators. One source says investigators traced part of the case to a tip from the suspect’s mother, which helped unravel the scheme before it could be carried out. Another report states the alleged motivation included anger related to the handling of investigative files connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The FBI and partner agencies have not indicated the plot was carried out and describe the incident as foiled prior to the event.
