Former Australian Liberal Party federal vice-president Teena McQueen has died after a short illness, with multiple outlets reporting that she passed away on Wednesday. Several sources say her death comes about a month after a high-profile move from the Liberal Party to One Nation. Reporting across the outlets also notes that McQueen served as federal Liberal Party vice-president from 2017 to 2023. Politicians and political figures issue tributes following her death. Tony Abbott is quoted in one report, describing her as a good friend, while other coverage characterises her as a significant figure within the Liberal Party before her defection. The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and other outlets also report tributes from members of the political community and references to Gina Rinehart among those offering condolences. While outlets differ slightly in the wording around her illness and the length of time since her defection, they agree on the core timeline: McQueen’s death on Wednesday and her recent switch to One Nation after her role in federal Liberal Party leadership.
