Bahrain and Kuwait both say the attacks occurred overnight and involve drones and missiles. Kuwait’s military says its air defenses intercepted the incoming projectiles, but it provides no immediate information on damage. Bahrain condemns the attack as a “flagrant threat” and describes it as a deliberate escalation rather than an isolated incident.
The renewed exchanges follow U.S. Central Command statements that it struck Iranian military “surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities and minelayer capabilities” after an attack on a ship at sea early Saturday. The ship is identified as the Panamanian-flagged tanker Kiku, carrying crude oil for Qatar’s state-run energy company. Iran says it acted as part of its response to U.S. actions, while the U.S. frames its strikes as retaliation and enforcement tied to a ceasefire/interim de-escalation effort.
At the same time, a U.S.-Navy overseen maritime body says it will expand an alternative route near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz for inbound and outbound traffic, a development seen as potentially setting up further flashpoints. The incident further complicates an interim U.S.-Iran deal aimed at reducing hostilities and resuming transits.
