Three children die after a recreational motor boat capsizes on Geneva Lake in southern Wisconsin during a sudden storm, according to officials. The boat, carrying 10 people including four children, sinks after attempting to navigate to safety as weather conditions deteriorate, Lake Geneva police said. Emergency responders rescue seven other people from the water. Authorities report the incident occurs amid severe weather on Friday afternoon. The storm also damages areas in Walworth County, with multiple 911 calls reporting damage and people trapped in buildings, according to a county undersheriff. Additional reports from local officials indicate fallen trees knock down power lines and damage buildings. Lake Geneva Mayor Todd Krause declares a local emergency and says at least one person has minor injuries after being struck by a falling tree. Police and county authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the capsizing, but officials do not provide further details about the victims’ identities in the accounts reviewed.
