Health workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are going on strike as the Ebola outbreak continues to expand. Multiple outlets report that staff at or connected to Ebola treatment facilities in eastern Congo stop work over pay and compensation disputes, including unpaid bonuses and months without pay. The strikes add pressure to already strained response efforts.

At the same time, reported confirmed Ebola cases have risen sharply across sources, with totals moving from more than 2,000 confirmed cases to above 3,000 in later reporting, alongside a rising death toll. Deaths are reported as surpassing several hundred, with one set of reports placing fatalities around the 600–700 range, while other coverage cites higher figures as the outbreak progresses.

Several reports characterize the outbreak as the fastest-growing Ebola emergency in history and say transmission is spreading faster than it can be tracked.
