Switzerland and Colombia play a World Cup 2026 round-of-16 match in Vancouver with a quarter-final place at stake. Multiple outlets describe the tie as a tense contest between the two teams, with the winner advancing to face defending champions Argentina in the next round. The match itself ends level after regular time, and extra time also produces no breakthrough. It therefore goes to a penalty shootout, where Switzerland prevails 4–3 to secure advancement. After the result, Switzerland’s next match is set against Argentina in the quarter-finals, following Argentina’s earlier progress in the tournament. Several previews and live-update pieces also frame Colombia as a potentially dangerous underdog, while Switzerland are presented as the opponent they must overcome to reach the last eight. One report also notes a pre-match blow for Switzerland involving the absence of Johan Manzambi due to injury.
