Meta launches “Muse Image,” its first in-house AI image-generation model developed by the Meta Superintelligence Labs division led by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang. The rollout begins inside the Meta AI chatbot, where users can create images from text prompts and also edit or alter existing pictures. Meta says the same image-generation capabilities extend to consumer and engagement features across Instagram and WhatsApp, including image-making tools and related creative experiences such as effects in Stories. Multiple outlets report that Muse Image is being embedded across Meta’s applications, with additional placements planned beyond Instagram and WhatsApp. At least one report indicates it is also set to come soon to Facebook and Messenger. Another detail described by a separate outlet is that the model can use an Instagram account as a prompt, enabling users to incorporate other Instagram users into AI-generated photos. The release is also framed as Meta’s continuation of its broader AI efforts after previously rebuilding parts of its AI lab and updating its underlying AI model strategy. Overall, sources agree that Muse Image is Meta’s new consumer-facing image generator integrated across key Meta platforms and advertising-related tools.
