A UK woman, Kath Main, claims she holds a winning National Lottery ticket worth about £12 million but says it was thrown away by a local shop before she could claim the prize. According to multiple reports, Main’s mother bought the ticket for the June 6 draw at a Londis store in Abercynon, South Wales. Main says she uses the same lottery numbers (08, 10, 26, 30, 35 and 42) and later checked the draw results after seeing that an estimated prize was unclaimed. She says the store told her mother there was no winning ticket on the machine screen, and Main agreed for the ticket to be discarded. Reports add that the ticket did not beep at the time, and bin collection reportedly happened before the family realised the numbers matched the winning combination.
National Lottery operator Allwyn says it is investigating Main’s claim relating to a potentially winning ticket and notes that it can take up to around 30 days to reach a decision. Main says she has provided evidence of purchase, including proof and doorbell footage, for the investigation. The shop is also reported to have had no CCTV during the period because it was undergoing renovation.
