Artificial intelligence is reshaping the tech landscape on several fronts today, from jobs and infrastructure to talent and consumer gadgets. Standard Chartered is preparing thousands of job cuts over the next four years as it automates more back-office work, underscoring how AI is now directly altering corporate staffing models, not just product roadmaps. At the same time, the race for AI capability is intensifying: Anthropic has hired prominent researcher Andrej Karpathy to work on Claude pretraining and a new effort aimed at using AI to improve AI development itself. Google, meanwhile, is deepening its ambitions with a new cloud venture backed by Blackstone and $5 billion in funding to expand access to AI compute. It is also blending Street View with Project Genie, turning mapped real-world locations into interactive simulated environments. And at the consumer end, Sony’s latest luxury headphones show that not every premium launch is a technical leap.
