France marks the 10th anniversary of the 2016 Nice Bastille Day truck attack. On the night of the attack, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a truck into crowds gathered along the “promenade des Anglais” as people watched fireworks, killing 86 people. Sources also report that more than 400 people were wounded. Bouhlel is killed the same night by police. Islamic State later claims responsibility for the attack.

In the years since the attack, legal proceedings have focused not only on Bouhlel but also on alleged collaborators. France 24 reports that eight people are accused of helping him. Their trial is set to begin on Monday in a special terrorism court in Paris.

As officials and communities mark the anniversary, the event remains a reference point for the scale of the attack and the continuing process of prosecution connected to the 2016 attack.
