Apple and EA Sports announce that Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition is coming to Apple Arcade, the subscription gaming service for Apple devices, in early August. Multiple outlets report a launch around August 6, with one outlet listing August 7. The game is built for Apple Arcade and is positioned as a complete Madden experience for the platform, including modes such as Quick Play and Franchise. Apple describes Franchise as using a season-based structure and a “story engine” that places players in a GM role, managing a team through changing storylines while tracking progress toward a title. The title uses current NFL rosters and player ratings drawn from real NFL performances, and it includes all 32 NFL teams.
A key change for the Apple Arcade version is the absence of Madden Ultimate Team (MUT). Sources note that Apple Arcade games do not include ads or in-app purchases, and EA’s card-and-pack based MUT model is removed as a result. The game supports touchscreen play and controller accessories across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, according to Apple’s information cited by outlets.
