Meta Platforms is reportedly in very early talks to lease AI computing power from its data centers to Anthropic, with the potential deal valued at about $10 billion over two years, according to the New York Times. Bloomberg and CNBC also confirm that discussions are underway, but emphasize that the talks are preliminary and may not lead to an agreement. The reported arrangement would reflect ongoing competition for scarce AI-capable computing hardware and would potentially expand Meta’s business beyond selling advertising by monetizing infrastructure through third-party access to its GPUs and other systems.
The discussions come shortly after Anthropic announced a separate compute arrangement with SpaceX. In that deal, Anthropic is paying $1.25 billion per month to use Nvidia GPUs at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center. Meta has also signaled interest in selling access to excess or available compute capacity, including remarks that other companies ask whether it has additional compute they could buy.
