Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to order an independent and comprehensive investigation into alleged theft and misappropriation of donations made to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The leaders ask that the Trust’s financial records and the investigation findings be made public so devotees can see how their offerings are utilised. They specifically cite concerns over the handling of cash donations and valuables such as gold and silver.

In their letters, the Congress leaders describe the issue as a breach of public trust and argue that accountability should extend regardless of individuals’ positions. They also contend that the Trust was constituted after the Supreme Court’s 2019 verdict, with formation announced in Parliament and trustees appointed by the Centre. The leaders raise allegations about links involving some Trust office-bearers and organisations associated with the Ram temple movement.

Multiple outlets note that the matter is under investigation and has reached the Supreme Court. Reporting also says the probe has led to arrests and resignations of senior Trust functionaries, while the Congress demands transparency and a time-bound, fair probe.
