Users of Meta’s Facebook and Instagram report intermittent access problems across multiple countries late on Wednesday, July 22. According to outage monitoring site Downdetector, thousands of outage reports are logged for the services, including reports from Singapore, where there are about 451 Instagram-related reports around 5pm. Other sources report broader disruptions, including in the United States, where Facebook users file thousands of complaints and a large majority report difficulty accessing the website. Reports describe a range of symptoms such as problems sending or receiving Instagram Direct Messages, conversations not loading, and issues with posts and stories not refreshing. Some Facebook users also report difficulties accessing their News Feed, logging in, and using Messenger. In response to the issues, some users turn to other social media platforms to ask if the services are down. The accounts do not cite a specific cause or timeline for restoration, and the outages are described as intermittent rather than a complete shutdown.
