King Charles III and Queen Camilla appear at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow by emerging from a life-sized Doctor Who TARDIS, following a pre-filmed segment played inside the Hydro arena. Reports describe the blue police box travelling across Scotland in the video, visiting landmarks including Loch Ness, Edinburgh Castle, the Kelpies, the University of Glasgow and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, with an additional detour referenced to the Jurassic period before arriving at Balmoral Castle. The clip is said to feature Sir Chris Hoy piloting the TARDIS, alongside Scottish actor Greg McHugh. After the video ends, the TARDIS appears on a garden stage inside the arena and the royal couple step out to applause, then walk to the royal box to begin the Games.

The opening ceremony also includes entertainment and the Parade of Nations. The Commonwealth Games are due to run over about two weeks, with reports citing roughly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competing across sports and Para sports.
