Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a new Claude model aimed at everyday enterprise use for complex coding and general knowledge-work tasks. The company says Opus 5 delivers close-to-flagship performance to its publicly available Fable 5 model while costing about half as much. Across several outlets, the pricing is reported as $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, the same rates Opus 4.8 used, and the model is available immediately on Anthropic’s platforms. Opus 5 is positioned as the default model for Claude Max and the strongest option on Claude Pro, with Fable 5 reserved for the hardest, longest-horizon work.

Multiple sources also highlight that Opus 5 is designed to complete multi-step tasks more efficiently, including by verifying its own outputs and recovering from errors, with an “effort” control that lets users trade off speed and cost. Anthropic reports Opus 5 improves on Opus 4.8 across coding and knowledge-work evaluations and is its most capable generally available model for scientific research. On cybersecurity and biology, sources agree Opus 5 was not trained on cyber tasks, does well at finding vulnerabilities but remains behind higher-restricted systems on exploitation. Opus 5 includes optional “fast mode” functionality and automatic safety-routing to other models when needed.
