Damage to the consulate’s facade is reported, with shell casings found at the scene. Toronto police say a white sedan with no license plates is seen leaving the area; officers initially pursue but quickly discontinue because of safety concerns.
Separately, one source notes that there was a March shooting at or near the same building, for which three people have been arrested and charged. Another source reports that police have previously suggested possible connections between anti-Jewish attacks in the city and shootings targeting the U.S. consulate, but the New York Times says it is too early to determine whether Monday’s incident is linked to the March attack or any other events. No suspects are publicly identified in connection with Monday’s shooting.
