Netflix faces a lawsuit seeking $105 million after a copy of the unreleased spy thriller "Fortitude," starring Nicolas Cage (and also described as including Ben Kingsley), was allegedly lost following a theft from the company’s Los Angeles office. The complaint is filed by producer-writer Simon Afram in California, according to multiple reports. Afram says Netflix showed interest in the project after receiving promotional materials in December 2025 and, in June, requested a working cut. He alleges that an associate producer delivered the film to Netflix by handing over a drive containing the movie. Euronews and other outlets report that encrypted or master material was stored on hard drives that were among several drives stolen from Netflix offices, and that the loss undermined the film’s ability to be sold. Netflix disputes the claim, saying it does not bear the risk of loss for a film delivered without proper industry-standard safeguards. Some reports also note Netflix offered to help monitor piracy sites for unauthorized distribution.
