A 16-year-old girl is allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus in the Delhi-NCR region, after the driver and conductor pick her up following her plea for help. Police say the accused threatened her and then abandoned her near Kashmere Gate bus terminal, Delhi, after the assault. The incident is reported to have occurred on the night of August 4 during a trip linked to Greater Noida/Noida, and the girl later contacted police.
Across reports, the girl’s travel sequence is described as involving confusion about her stop in heavy rain, after which she boards a bus that she believes will take her toward Sector 63/Noida. Multiple outlets identify the accused as the driver (Kuldeep) and conductor (Sandeep) and say they are arrested within hours, with the bus seized for forensic examination.
While most outlets focus on the arrests and the alleged assault, one report adds that the bus reportedly had several prior challans in Uttar Pradesh and that identity verification of the driver and conductor by the travel company may not have been done. Separately, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) takes suo motu cognisance of a media report and issues notices to police chiefs in Delhi and Gautam Buddh Nagar, seeking details on the investigation and any compensation within two weeks.
