Multiple outlets report that the software includes indications of a four-speaker surround setup involving second-generation HomePods, along with a separate audio feature called “Party Mode.” The findings are based on code references reported by forum user “pdfu” and surfaced in beta software, rather than on any confirmed public release.
The code references a layout that would map front-left, front-right, rear-left, and rear-right speakers, along with tuning and processing steps such as room calibration, speaker-position mapping, timing adjustments, bass management, equalization, and different modes for movies versus music. For stereo playback, it reportedly suggests either spatializing audio across all four units or limiting standard stereo to the two front speakers. Outlets also note references to a new tuning system and an additional unspecified speaker hardware identifier.
Separately, “Party Mode” is described as spreading sound more diffusely across a room for a more immersive listening experience with stereo pairs. None of these features are described as configurable in Apple’s Home app or Apple TV, and the outlets emphasize that this is testing and future release plans are uncertain.
