A fire breaks out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a private hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and patients are evacuated, with newborns reported among those moved to safety. The incident takes place on Friday, and hospital staff evacuate infants in the NICU and patients in an adjoining general ward as smoke is noticed from an air-conditioning unit.
Multiple outlets report that nine infants are safely evacuated to other hospitals with the consent of their relatives. The Hindu says 58 patients, including nine newborns, are evacuated. Times of India reports that 9 infants and 50 other patients are evacuated, while Free Press Journal similarly notes nine NICU patients are shifted to other hospitals and cites CCTV visuals showing staff moving babies before the fire spreads.
